FAQS
HOW DO I GET TO SUNSETSURF DOMINICAL?
After you have booked and confirmed your airline tickets, forward us your flight details so we can reserve your accommodations and arrange airport pick-up. If your flight is a late arrival you may need to spend the night in San Jose, no problem though, our happy little driver will pick you up from your hotel in the morning and bring you down to Dominical.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Besides a big smile and some new jokes (our material is getting old), throw in some sun block (water resistant of course), a hat for some sun coverage, sunglasses, sandals, and for the fair-skinned some light cotton long-sleeved shirts is a good idea. A camera is another necessity, and for horse-back riding and hiking you should bring the appropriate footwear. Guys, for surfing bring board shorts. Recommendations for women three different options for surf wear: if you’re going to wear a bikini for surf lessons get a halter style top (not with the sliding triangles!), and a snug fitting bottom. Another option is girl’s board shorts (they’re shorter than the guy’s styles) with a halter style bikini top, or if you really don’t want to worry about the waves having their way with your surfing gear, you could wear a one-piece suit. As long as you’re comfortable is the motto here! Another good thing to bring is a book that will entertain you during your down-time here in Costa Rica.
WHAT SORT OF WEATHER SHOULD I EXPECT?
Let’s split it into the two seasons:

WET SEASON: (May –October) Sunny mornings with afternoon showers, average temps 70 to 75.

Sunset Surf Camp is located in Playa Dominical, situated halfway down the Pacific coast of Costa Rica near the Osa Peninsula. Dominical beach is tucked away at the base of the Talamanca Mountains, where the jungle meets the sea.
This charismatic little surf town has a charm of its own. Unlike other more popular surfing towns in Costa Rica; Dominical has avoided the mainstream tourist market, maintaining its original, rustic, Costa Rican appeal. During a stroll down the main street (dirt road) you’ll be greeted by warm smiles from friendly locals, come across some great restaurants and bars where you can meet and chat with other surfers and tourists alike. For a small town Dominical has quite the nightlife, on various nights you can find live music and dance the night away until the wee hours of the morning. Also you will find 2 small supermarkets, a bank, several internet cafés, surf shops and some great places to collect souvenirs.
At the mouth of the Barú River which winds its way down through the mountains behind the beach Dominical attracts not only surfers, but anyone with a taste for adventure: fishermen, birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts etc…“This is the Jungle on the Beach.” |
